About Our Church

Welcome to Calvary Lutheran Church, a congregation of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA), faithfully rooted in this community since 1944 .
Located in the heart of Sabula, Iowa, Iowa’s only island city, Calvary is a small-town church with a big heart. We’re a community where everyone is welcome, faith is lived out in everyday kindness, and God’s love is shared through worship, service, and fellowship.

At Calvary, church isn’t just a building. It’s a family!
You’ll find a caring congregation that prays together, serves together, and celebrates God’s grace together. Whether you’ve attended church your whole life or are exploring faith for the first time, there’s a place for you here.

We are blessed to be led by Synodically Authorized Minister Carrington Wells, a lifelong member of Calvary who is currently enrolled in the TEEM (Theological Education for Emerging Ministries) program at Wartburg Theological Seminary. Carrington’s deep roots in the congregation and commitment to serving Christ continue to nurture Calvary’s mission and community spirit.

Join us for worship every Sunday at 9:00 a.m., followed by Sunday School during the school year at 10 a.m.
Our services are streamed live on Facebook at 9:00 a.m. (no account needed) and posted on our website and YouTube channel by 10:30 a.m. each week so you can worship with us wherever you are.

Throughout the year, we gather for special services, community meals, and outreach projects that support our neighbors and reflect the love of Christ, always guided by Jesus’ invitation:

“Let the little children come to me…” — Matthew 19:14

No matter who you are or where you are on your faith journey, you are welcome at Calvary, where faith feels like family.
